Hi I’m Stephanie Sterling, and thank you for taking the time to read and learn a little about my story, home business entrepreneur journey, and how I discover and got started representing It Works Global as an Independent Distributor.
The Early Years
My career background prior to becoming a full-time entrepreneur was in the hospitality and convention industry. Like a lot of high-school and college students I wanted extra income, and my parents wanted to teach me about responsibility and managing money. I got my first job in fast food at 15, then moved into full service restaurants as a food-server at 17.
While working at an upscale steak and seafood restaurant with fairly large banquet and catering facilities, I was offered a catering manager position at the age of 21 and within months was offered a Director of Sales position and transferred to the San Francisco Bay Area. It was there, surrounded by hundreds of 4 and 5 star hotels, and resorts that I became obsessed with getting a catering and banquet management position, or sales manager job with one of them. Within a month of making a decision to apply, I was offered and accepted a position at a 22 acre resort and spa, that has over 20,000 square feet of meeting, reception and conference facilities. It was my dream job!
I continued on for the next 15 years alternating between restaurant management, and sales and catering looking for new challenges and opportunities for growth every few years. Everywhere I worked since my first days as a food-server, through all they years in sales and management people were suggesting, and encouraging me to open my own restaurant.
But, what I really longed for was the freedom of being an entrepreneur, in sales, distribution, or consulting, and working from home.
No glass ceilings, and the ability to produce results, help people and truly make a difference in their lives is what I dreamed about doing. I just needed to figure out how, or what.
In 1998, and after working as a sales rep in an unrelated field for a commercial energy supplier I developed the taste for the power of residual income. Doing the work one time to gain a client, or account and getting paid for that work you did one time, month after month, year after year! That was what happened every time one of my restaurant, grocery stores, car dealerships, wineries, factories, etc used gas, or electricity. I was paid on their usage!! Unfortunately the company closed it’s doors dues to federal and state energy regulation laws that were passed.
So, with a small unemployment check coming in, I set out to find the perfect entrepreneurial venture.
My First Home Business
In December of 1998 I responded to an ad for a network marketing company in the weight loss and wellness segment of our industry, and joined as a distributor within 72 hours after attending a home event. I was with this company for 5 years, and fell in love with making a difference in peoples lives, helping them to feel and look better, and improve their health. I had a really large customer base, and a sizable team or organization.
Along the way, I made a friend in another wellness company who had combined the high-touch would of local relationship marketing, with the high-tech world of the Internet to reach people all over the world! I was fascinated and wanted so much to learn from her, and partner with her, but wasn’t willing to change companies in the same wellness field to do so. So we kept in touch, and in the meantime I studied what she did, and implemented what I could to the best of my ability. I was gaining customers, and growing a team all over the United States!
Combining Local and Internet, and Social Marketing
In 2003 I saw a message board forum post that my friend had made about her going in a new direction to join a natural wax candle and home fragrance company. I followed the link, poured over the website, and within hours submitted my distributor application to partner with, and join her.
That was April 2003, and within 18 months my organization had thousands and thousands of customers purchasing our candles and products, and I had my own team of well over 5,000 distributors. By 2007 it was over 8,500 distributors and I was living my dream life of complete freedom, living in Northern Virginia.
Then the housing and financial markets crashed, and the last thing people wanted to spend money they didn’t have was home fragrance! Seeing this trend wasn’t going to end for sometime, I began searching for a different company, with a product line that would be in-demand no matter what the state of the economy. Things were going backwards, and we downsized and moved to more affordable Florida.
My Discovery and Beginning as an It Works Distributor
Soon after arriving in Florida, I picked up my company search again. We moved into our home in June 2012. In August 2012 a dear friend from my former company shared with me that she and her husband, (it was his idea!) had become distributors with It Works.
I spent some time viewing before and after photos of hundreds of people who used the It Works Body Wrap, and was super impressed by my friends results! I really felt that this could be the perfect fit, being able to help people look younger, live longer, happier, healthier lives, and a flagship product in the body wrap that gave people results in just 45 minutes. Who wouldn’t want that?!?
Within days after researching more on the products, the income potential and compensation plan, the timing and marketplace, the owners and leadership, and the support and training, and attending my first It Works Green Carpet Event as a guest, I enrolled with my Distributor Starter Kit, and joined!
This has been one of the best, happiest, and most rewarding decisions I have ever made in my career. I’ve made some of the most wonderful new friends, helped many many people improve their self image, and health, and absolutely love my team, coaching and mentoring them, and watching them become successful business owners and entrepreneurs as this business changes their, and their families lives!
