Have you heard about the It Works Body Wraps scam? A few years ago was when I first heard of It Works. I actually saw it online in a directory of home based businesses, and noticed a listing for an It Works Distributor. At the time I wasn’t curious enough to find out exactly what it was.
My goal through this article is to share the facts as I know them from the perspective of someone who has done their own homework, used the body wraps and products, made the decision to become a distributor, and I truly hope to dispel any untruths, myths and offer you my thoughts.
A couple of years ago on Facebook I noticed on one of my friends profiles they were sharing some pretty incredible before and after photos and saw it again on many Facebook Pages and I have to say, I was impressed by the Body Wrap Results. So, I set out to do some research.
It Works History & Facts
What I found was It Works Global, the company actually began back in 2001. The wraps were discovered in Europe and were sold in spas and salons for between $200-$300 per treatment. The lady who discovered them introduced them to the man who is now the It Works CEO, Mark Pentecost and his wife, and they got incredible results.
Pam Sowder who discovered the targeted body contouring wrap, and the body wrap product formulator, Luis Mijares partnered together with Pentecost and they named the company It Works! because it truly does work.
Over the years there have been hundreds of thousand of men and women who wrap and the company has been rated one of the fastest growing and been featured in Forbes and Inc Magazines prestigious 500/5000 list. They have also been featured in major publications like Success From Home Magazines, carried and sold on newsstands and in major book stores, as well as featured in trade publications like Direct Selling News, and have received countless awards.
It Works Global is a member of the DSA, Direct Selling Association based out of Washington, DC and adhere to the DSA’s Code of Ethics, which is super important to look for if you are evaluating starting a home based business in Network Marketing, MLM or Direct Sales.
A few years after I began to notice It Works Global and the Ultimate Applicator Body Wrap more and more on the Internet, through social media and around my own town.
In 2012 I had determined I was ready for a change from the Network Marketing Company I had been with full time for the past 11 years. Because this is my career having operated a business from my home since 1998, and enjoying the freedom, security and incredible lifestyle offered through the Network Marketing Business Model I took my research very seriously.
The It Works Business Opportunity
One thing that impressed me as I looked into the It Works Compensation Plan, and evaluated the It Works Product Line, was the ratio of customers to distributors. I heard that over 75% of the business It Works did was from customers ordering the Ultimate Body Applicator, nutritional supplements, weight loss and skin care products at retail, or wholesale through the Loyal Customer Program. Yes, the product sales and real solid volume are the backbone of this company and that’s a great sign of healthy, thriving stability in a Network Marketing Company.
When I discovered this I knew this company might likely fit my criteria. So I decided to dive into the nuts and bolts of their compensation plan further.
I had seen many companies out there promoting these incredible challenge bonuses, often times tied to a ‘Car Bonus Program” but what I didn’t like about the companies I saw was that they tied their Car Bonus to Recruiting and that was a scary red flag to me. The reason was based on my hands on experience of over 15 years and knowing if a distributor had signed and was responsible for a lease on a high-end luxury or sports car and either was not longer heavily recruiting, or if their sales organization began having their producers back off from recruiting the person qualified for that car bonus could be in trouble paying for that lease commitment.
What I noticed about It Works is they had a $600 monthly Car Bonus that was achieved by growing a solid customer base through their Loyal Customer Program. Further research led me to the fact that the average Loyal Customer orders are around $72 a month, even though the company does not have a minimum dollar amount for the customers monthly purchase. Now that was seriously impressive!
Another thing was that this bonus is paid out in dollars instead of being forced to sign a commitment to a car lease. So a distributor can choose to use that extra $600 a month to pay off debt, put it into savings for college, retirement, or a trust fund, or they could make improvements on their home, or take the vacation of their dreams. It Works has since changed the name of their Car Bonus to the Loyal Customer Bonus. I believe this is really attracting a lot of Network Marketing Industry Leaders.
