Every year it seems as though all direct sales and network marketing company distributors experience what we call the “Holiday Slow Down.”
It usually happens about mid-November the week before Thanksgiving, and continues until right after the New Year.
You will find this in every company, and even thought it doesn’t have to be true for you, you’ll find that many It Works Distributors have this same mindset.
Well, I’m here to share with you that in 19 years of Network Marketing, and my 5th holiday season as an It Works Distributor, the holidays have never been a slow season for me, with the exception of December 20th-27th.
My hope is that these Holiday Marketing Tips, strategies and philosophies will help you make this holiday season one of your busiest, and that you’ll rock the holiday season every year from now on!
The Marketing Pie, and Low Hanging Fruit
Way back in the year 2000 or so, in my 2nd year as a full time Network Marketing Professional I was on a generic industry training call.
On this call I heard that because many distributor almost check out during November and December, and potential customers and distributors can’t reach them by phone.
Picture our companies distributors all making up tiny slices of one great big pie.
This is a marketing pie, and it’s surrounded by all kinds of potential prospects who are interested in using the wraps, losing weight, not gaining weight through the holidays, or are thinking about the new year, and their plans for a happier, healthier lifestyle in the coming New Year.
Many of these people don’t want to wait until the start of the New Year to make healthier lifestyle habits. They are thinking about it, and it often keeps them awake at night, and preoccupied with their thoughts during the day.
There are other people, or even some of these same health conscious people are also thinking about how they want their financial future and circumstances to be different the coming year.
Maybe they want more income, more quality free time with their children, spouses and friends. Or maybe they really want this to be the year they fire their boss, become an entrepreneur, set their own hours, and determine their own income.
They all know that if they don’t do their research, develop a plan, and take action before January first arrives, that the new year will likely be the same as the previous year.
But what about that marketing pie?
All of those distributors have checked out. What this can mean for you, is that the pie isn’t divided into as many slices, and that your slices of pie just got much larger.
On the Holiday Marketing Call I listened to many years ago, it was said that during this time of year their is a lot of low hanging fruit!
You know what that’s like. Picture an orchard full of fruit tress. When their are many people harvesting the trees at once, you will need a ladder to reach higher, and make more effort.
But when there are less people harvesting, their is a lot of ripe fruit hanging from low branches, and it’s much easier to get to.
Four Marketing Seasons
Just like in everything else there is a spring, summer, winter and fall in marketing all businesses.
They consist of times to plant seeds, time to water and fertilize the seeds you planted, a time to weed the garden, and a time to harvest.
During the holiday season, it’s a bit of both.
It’s a time to plant seeds with people who are preoccupied, have goals they want to reach, but they’re procrastinating making any changes until after the first of the year.
Then there is the harvest happening now. They are the people ready to get a head start, and they are just looking for the right products, program, and support system to begin.
You, as an It Works Distributor want to be there, available and ready to help both of these people.
The best way to do much of this, is not to be obnoxious at holiday gatherings with friends, coworkers and family. Truly get into the Christmas or holiday spirit, and enjoy connecting, or reconnecting with people.
Use your ears more than your mouth, except to ask questions, take numbers, and follow up.
When it comes to marketing, you might have heard of FORM before.
FORM stands for: Family, Occupation, Recreation, Money or Mission.
As you attend events, be interested, and not interesting.
Put your focus on others and ask about what’s been happening in their life the past several months. Ask about their plans for the upcoming year.
What has been happening with there family? How is there spouse, how are the kids doing?
They will share about promotions, job losses, cut backs, health challenges, successes, graduations, weddings, and more!
Ask them how is their job?
Compliment them, and point out things like how they must meet a lot of interesting people every day, have the opportunity to help others and make a difference, etc.
When you edify others, and find genuine ways to find the good, recognize and compliment them, it opens them up to share not only the good things, but they feel more comfortable in sharing with you things they don’t enjoy, and wish they could change.
Make note, that you have a possible solution. Don’t bring it up now, or they will feel manipulated. Wait a few days, or after the holidays. Then contact them later and says something like…
“Hey Sally, I’ve been thinking of you. There was something you shared with me at the Christmas party. You know how you said you wish you could change _______? Well, I’m not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for. But I believe I may have a solution. When can we get together for coffee (etc) this week and I’ll share my thoughts (idea) with you?”
Listen for clues in what they say about money, or their causes or mission. This may come up when talking about their family, or work. Ask if they’ve taken any fun vacations, or have any coming up. Often times work, or finances hold people back from doing the things they would like to do ever… or more often.
Get Out and Mingle, Window Shop, etc
Take advantage of how people are in the festive holiday spirit, and brave the crowds. Go shopping wearing your It Works clothing, and have plenty of blits cards.
Go into any store at the mall, and when the clerk asks if they can help you find something. Be thoughtful, take out a blitz card pointing to the “green” color. Let them know you’re looking for _____ in this shade of green. They will help you find it, and then thank them and offer them the coupon. You can do this in any store!

Vendor Booths and Expos
Go onto Facebook and do a search for “Your City Vendor Booths” and “Your City Expos and Fairs” etc. You’ll find year round event opportunity postings of many low cost vendor booths. Often the holidays present a lot of opportunities.
Plan a Health and Wellness Fair
Locate a few people in your area in complimentary wellness professions and make friends. A few Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, Nutritionists, Dietitians, Estheticians, etc. Make a list of the health clubs in your area. Then ask the other beauty and wellness professionals if they would be interested in partnering together to do a series of wellness fairs in the new year.
Approach your health clubs and ask the managers if they would like to host a wellness fair with complimentary business people to increase exposure and memberships for their club.
Normally the club provides the space, they set up their own booth to promote their facilities and classes, and each vendor promotes their event to bring more traffic through flyers, a Facebook event page, unique connections all vendors have. You could even set up a special WordPress blog site that is dedicated to your events calendar and promotions.
This type of event and partnership is a real win-win for everyone!
Shop from Your Own Store
When making your gift giving list, think of the products you have that make great gifts, like our Peppermint Bliss Holiday Gift Set, Merry Clean and Bright, or a couple of wraps to someone on your list who has been curious, and wanting to try them.
Why spend money in someone else’s store when you get a 40% discount, or more, and giving your products creates awareness with people?
Many think you just have wraps. Show them that you offer so much more.
When they receive a thoughtful, beneficial gift from your It Works Business, it will create curiosity.
People fall in love with your products, and you gain customers, referrals, and business partners!
